Today Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, announced that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are no longer directing the standalone Han Solo film.
The reason for this recent departure was “creative differences” between the studio and the directors. This makes me wonder what the creative differences were. If they were on the same page when they got hired, why are there suddenly problems this far into its production?
This may be alarming news since Lord and Miller have been on a winning streak with the 21 Jump Street reboot and The Lego Movie. They also left DC’s Flash movie to do this one. A reassuring thought is that just like Ant-Man and Wonder Woman, many films lose their directors and end up being successful.
It is too early to tell how this will effect the films quality; until a new director is announced I will stay optimistic about this, but still a little worried.
